A TURKISH SILVER-MOUNTED SHAMSHIR STRUCK WITH THE TUGHRA OF ABD-AL-HAMID II

With curved blade of watered steel decorated with a series of gold-damascened panels on both sides, one filled with a Turkish inscription, the hilt encased in silver chased with flowers, fitted with silver guard cast in low relief with bouquets and leafy branches, in its original leather-covered scabbard mounted en suite with the hilt, retaining its original decorative knot of gold and silver thread, and the hilt and scabbard mounts retaining some of their gold-washed finish
