A SAXON MINER'S GUILD AXE
Dated 1718
With flat iron head of characteristic type, fruitwood haft inlaid over its full length with a series of engraved horn plaques and flowerhead roundels all on a ground of horn pellets, including the figure of Christ Crucified, two miners in prayer at his feet, and a further two at work, engraved horn pommel cut with the device of the Miners' Guild on one side and the Electorial arms of Saxony together with a brief prayer on the other, and fitted with plain bone cap and finial (four lesser plaques replaced)
