A HALBERD, GERMAN OR SWISS
Second half of the 16th Century
Of robust construction, the head with large axe-blade with convex leading-edge and cusped back-edges, pierced with a trefoil and with groups of small circular holes towards the points, bifurcated flat rear fluke, the lower part changing to a reinforced point of stiff diamond section and struck with a mark on both sides, central spike of rectangular section, and open socket applied with a brass rosette on both sides, extending to form a pair of long straps: on an octagonal pine staff, possibly the original, with an additional pair of straps left and right (the lower 16in of the staff replaced)
