Lot Essay

This side cabinet is in the "Antiquarian Taste" of the early 19th century. To satisfy the market for medieval furniture, pieces were made using genuine elements of 16th and 17th century panelling, often from houses of the period.

William Wilberforce (1759-1833) was born in Hull, Yorkshire, in Wilberforce House, now a museum.
