The yellow ground on this piece appears to be extremely rare. It is meticulously applied to the exterior and honeycomb walls, but not to the interior of the vase. At the time of publication, another example could not be found. See Henry Sandon, Royal Worcester Porcelain, London, 1978, p. 31 for a discussion on George Owen's experiments with incredibly fine piercing. During a tight period at the factory, Owen worked months at a time without pay on these specialty pieces in hopes they would sell directly to collectors.
