Modelled after the Sèvres 'Vases de Côte Deparis' the decoration inspired by the service made for Catherine the Great, each of shield-shape, the gadrooned cover with cone finial, the fluted neck flanked by scroll and ring handles, painted en grisaille with portrait medallions above ribbon-tied garlands, on a conforming socle and square base

Lot Essay

It has been speculated that the Mintons models were based on examples of the Catherine II service in the Collection of W.J. Goode, see Elizabeth Aslin and Paul Atterbury, Minton 1798-1910, Victoria & Albert Museum and Thomas Goode & Co. Ltd. Exhibition August - October 1976, p. 85-86, cat. Ml2.
