In the Renaissance style, of chalice form, the domed cover with spire finial, finely painted and hand tooled in white slip with three mythological panels of Saturn, Neptune and Jupiter, each depicted recumbent holding their attribute, on a gilt seeded ground within a strapwork surround, alternating with floral vases set on elaborate pedestals incorporating teal-ground florette medallions and suspending fruiting garlands from masked panels, the bowl similarly decorated with corresponding arabesques, the ball stem and bell-shaped foot with strapwork incorporating baskets of fruit and classical masks, the interior of the cover and bowl gilt with a sun amongst stars

Lot Essay

Arthur Morgan is recorded as an apprentice to Louis Solon circa 1877 and later at Doulton decorating pâte-sur-pâte vases.
