A PAIR OF UNUSUAL ORMOLU-MOUNTED WUCAI SQUARE VASES
THE PORCELAIN SECOND HALF 17TH CENTURY, THE ORMOLU 19TH CENTURY
Each tall vase of square form and with almost flat shoulder and short waisted neck, decorated in underglaze blue and shades of green, yellow, aubergine, iron-red and black enamels with a different scene on each face depicting dignitaries, scholars, warriors, ladies and attendants on pavilion terraces, in landscapes and in pavilions, each panel outlined with an underglaze blue line, the shoulder enamelled with pale green floral collar edged in iron-red with an underglaze blue ruyi head at each corner, the neck with lotus alternating with small flowerheads, the necks mounted with ormolu rims and the footrims with ormolu bases with four ball feet, minor chips and frits to edges
