AN UNUSUAL BLUE AND WHITE SOUP-TUREEN, COVER AND STAND
SECOND QUARTER OF THE 18TH CENTURY
Of tall oval form with scalloped rims, applied with hare-head handles and large openwork crown finial, painted in a deep bright cobalt blue on each side of the tureen and at the centre of the stand with an octafoil panel enclosing a basket of peony, prunus and bamboo, and scattered floral sprays around the handles, on the cover and at the border of the stand, the stand also with floral cartouches reserved on trellis pattern in the well, repeated on the rim of the cover, and a band of linked cash motifs below the scalloped rim
The tureen 13 in. (33 cm.) across the handles, the stand 15¼ in. (38.4 cm.) wide
