Lot Essay
This painter of 'impressive still lifes of good quality' is the Jan van Kessel who has often understandably confused with his better known namesake from the celebrated Antwerp family (A. van der Willingen and F. Meijer A Dictionary of Dutch and Flemish Still-Life Painters Working in Oils, 1525-1725, Leiden, 2003, p. 122).
