Rolex Reference 5504 Reference 5504 is commonly known as the "Air King" model, fitted with the "Precision" calibre 1530. Few examples were however marketed as "Explorers". The traditional black dial version was reserved for the English market whereas the white variant like the following two watches (lots 244 and 245) was only distributed in Canada. It is interesting to note that reference 5504 was often regarded as the "poor man's Explorer". This not only because of the Precision movement but also due to the water-resistance to 50 meters only whereas its "big brother" model 1016 was waterproof up to 100 meters.
