Lot Essay

Norman Weiss, along with Sid Bernstein, is the man credited with bringing the Beatles to the United States for the first time in 1964. Weiss was a theatrical agent working for General Artists Corporation and was visiting Paris in January/February, 1964 as the manager of Trini Lopez who appeared on the same bill as the Beatles during their three-week stint at the Paris Olympia. Bernstein had already laid the foundations for the Beatles to appear at Carnegie Hall, New York in February but when Weiss met Brian Epstein in Paris, the Beatles were booked for their first ever show in the U.S. in Washington D.C. on 11 February and two shows at Carnegie Hall the following day.
