Edward Middleton Barry was the third son of Sir Charles Barry (1795-1860), the architect whose commissions included the Travellers' and the Reform Clubs and the New Palace of Westminster (completed by Edward Middleton Barry after his father's death). E.M. Barry's own commissions include the Charing Cross Hotel, similar in style to the present drawing, the New Covent Garden Theatre and extensions to the National Gallery, London.
