EXCELLENT COMPLETE SET OF THE FIRST COMPLETE WITH THE RARE TASMAN MAP IN A NEAR CONTEMPORARY BINDING. Thevenot's notable compilation is substantially concerned with Asia and the East Indies with the latest notices of commercial and missionary voyages, many made by personal acquaintances whom Thevenot interviewed. As each narrative has separate pagination, the order of binding can differ in various copies. This set conforms to the listing in the 'Catalogue' and includes the 'Relations' of Part V, here in their first issue. Only after Thevenot died were these remaining voyages edited for this 1696 edition. It is in Part V that Tasman's voyage appears. The folding map in Vol. I showing Tasman's route accompanies the voyage of François Pelsart and his 'discovery' of 'Terre Australe' in 1629. First published in parts, 1663-1696. Cordier Japonica 33; Cordier Sinica 1944; Sabin 95334; Palau 331564; Brunet V, 810; Lust 260 listing the voyages to China. (2)
