Etched map of the siege of Valletta, (360 x 520mm). (Old fold marks.) One of a series of plans and view of Malta drawn up by Lafreri to illustrate the latest news of the Turkish siege of the island in 1565. This view shows the Turkish army of 30,000 men surrounding the fort and town. The 700 Knights of St John and 9000 fighting men held out for months and the Turkish eventually retreated.
