Lehnert worked at Budissin near Dresden in the first half of the 18th Century.

Gottlieb Kirchner made two versions of this model in 1727 which are mentioned in his workbook for 22nd October 1927; 'Ist von dem Former Fritzsche voritzo ein Uhrgehäuse mit feinen Zierrathen und allerhand Figuren, als worzu der Bildhauer Kirchner ein Modell gegeben, gefertiget worden, so ein gut Aussehen hat, und hoffet man, dass dieses nach erfolgten Gutbrenen ohne defect zu erhalten seyn werde'.

A similar example with a stand was sold in these Rooms on 9th October 1973, lot 215. See also Ulrich Pietsch, 'Frühes Meissener Porzellan' Deutsches Keramikmuseum, Düsseldorf and Zwinger, Dresden Exhibition Catalogue (Munich, 1997), pp. 46-47, no. 23, and Ludwig Schnorr von Carolsfeld, Porzellansammlung Gustav von Klemperer (Dresden, 1928), pl. 44, no. 480 for similar examples. Another example (without a movement but with a stand) is illustrated by Ingelore Handt and Hilde Rakebrand, Meissner Porzellan des Achtzehnten Jahrhunderts 1710-1750 (Dresden, 1956), pl. 75. A variant model, without the putti and a male figure above, was sold in these Rooms on 6th July 1970, lot 124.
