Lot Essay

A desk set with a box for sealing-wax, a sander and an inkwell (with a stand of different quatrefoil form) is in the Cummer Gallery of Art, Jacksonville, Florida. See 'The Wark Collection, Early Meissen Porcelain' Catalogue (1984), p. 146, no. 219, where it points out the rarity of such desk-sets. Another dated example (1735) made for King Christian VI of Denmark is in the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg. For another example with a shaped rectangular stand, a sander and an inkwell in the Untermyer Collection, see Yvonne Hackenbroch, Meissen and other Continental Porcelain, Faience and Enamel in the Irwin Untermyer Collection (London, 1956), p. 147, no. 136, pl. 90.
