The melon naturistically modelled and painted in shades of green, on a fixed shaped oval stand painted with four flower-sprays within a moulded gilt band rim (wear to gilding, slight wear to enamels, tip of stem restored, stand with hairline crack from rim, cover with minute chipping to rim, interior with firing crack)

Lot Essay

After an initial unsuccessful attempt at establishing a factory at Pfalz-Zweibrücken, in 1767 a factory was set up under the patronage of Christian IV, Duke of Pfalz-Zweibrücken, at nearby Schloss Gutenbrunn. Work was directed by Laurentius Russinger until he was replaced in 1768 by J.M. Höckel. Both had come from Höchst, and the influence of naturalistic tureens produced there can be seen in the present lot.
