A MEISSEN YELLOW-GROUND RECTAGULAR TEACADDY AND COVER
CIRCA 1742, GILDER'S 46. TO BOTH PIECES, PRESSNUMMER 49
Each side painted with vignettes of travellers at rest below a sign of crossed swords, a Winter scene of merchants and porters by a frozen river, a gallant and two ladies at rest in a river landscape and figures in a boat before tall ships and a harbour, within elongated ogival cartouches with brown-line and gilt band borders below broad gilt bands to the corners, the shoulders left plain and decorated in puce with diaper-pattern panels below leaves issuing scrolls and geometric lines, the cylindrical cover with gilt cone finial flanked by two wide ogival cartouches similar to those on the caddy, the edge with a broad gilt band (minute patches of wear to gilding to tip of finial and corners of base)
