AN IMPERIAL EDICT
DAOGUANG, DATED TO 1834 AND OF THE PERIOD

Written on silk brocade woven with ruyi-cloud pattern-ground mounted as a handscroll, the text arranged in standard form reading from left to right in Manchu and repeated from right to left in Chinese characters, the Chinese text opening with a four-character title in a vertical line, Fengtian Gaomin, 'By the Command of Heaven', flanked by a pair of dragons, followed by a long text and ending with the date 14th year of Daoguang, corresponding to 1834, stamped with a seal impression beside its Manchu transliteration within a square, continuing with further Manchu text
