Lot Essay

The text is from a poem entitled Shan Ju Qiu Ming by the Tang poem Wang Wei (699-759). A brushpot inscribed with the same Qingxi Shanren signature from the Dr Yip Yee collection, illustrated in Chinese Bamboo Carving I, Hong Kong Museum of Art, 1978, no. 79; where the cyclical dingmao year is dated either to 1807 or 1867.
