A translation for the text reads:

"Aspiration grows from the simple style;
friendship comes from modest behaviour.
The aged pine and the ancient cypress are good companions;
The bright moon and fresh breeze are old sages.

Live as long as (the archaic inscriptions on) bronze and stone; (wishes for) prosperity and longevity". Cf. op. cit., 1999, p. 349.

The text ends with the name of Woshi Shanren, an unknown sobriquet of the artist, and Qianlong Bingwu, '(written) in the Qianlong Bingwu year (1786)'.
