GUANGXU SIX-CHARACTER MARKS AND OF THE PERIOD (1875-1908)

The interiors of each painted in underglaze-blue with a medallion enclosing four lotus leaves radiating from a central flower-head below a band of buds and lotus leaves amidst dense scrolls, the exterior enamelled with leafy lotus stems rising from waves at the base

Lot Essay

A similar bowl from the Simon Kwan Collection was included in the exhibition Imperial Porcelain of late Qing, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, 1983, pl. 131. It is mentioned that bowls of two sizes 'decorated in underglaze-blue on the inside and multi-coloured lotus flowers on the outside' were listed as items no. 40 and 44 in the production catalogue of the imperial kilns in the twenty-sixth year of Guangxu, op. cit., pp. 23-25.
