Lot Essay

Both the form and decoration of this jar are inspired by early 15th century blue and white wares which are themselves of Islamic inspiration. An example can be found in Freer Gallery Collection; see Oriental Ceramics, Vol. 9, Kodansha Series, Japan, 1981, no. 96.
