Les différentes couches de laque rouge et noire sculptées en relief sur fond ocre, à l'intérieur de deux oiseaux volant parmi d'épais branchages feuillagés de pivoines épanouies ou en boutons, la bordure ornée au revers de volutes dans le style des laques tixi ; un petit côté cassé et recollé

Lot Essay

This tray is carved in 14th century style and recalls a number of black lacquer 'bird and flower' subject dishes such as two dishes illustrated in J.C.Y.Watt and B. Brennan Ford, East Asian Lacquer, The Florence and Herbert Irving Collection, The Metropolitain Museum of Art, New York 1992, pp.66-67, pl.18 and pp.70-71, pl.20 ; see also the carved red lacquer rectangular tray, 14th century, sold in our Hong Kong Rooms, 30 May 2005, lot 1335
