SIGNED BY JOHNSON AND HIS CABINET between 10 November 1868 and 2 March 1869. Each of the seven Executive Departments are represented here. Seward, McCulloch and Welles were holdovers from the Lincoln administration. Schofield was the man Johnson finally got into the War Department after Edwin Stanton finally climbed down from his barricade during the Impeachment crisis of 1868 (see previous lot). Attorney General Evarts was part of the legal defense team during Johnson's trial in the Senate. It is highly unusual to find Johnson and all his cabinet on a single sheet; we are aware of no other example.
