Distinctive Windsor chairs of this design were made in South Yorkshire as part of the repertoire of Windsors which have clear Celtic chair parallels, including the use of the legs which are not connected with cross-stretchers. This particularly fine example is original in all respects, including its surface finish. It has parallels, too, in a corner chair design (also made in Yorkshire) which has a high back extension above the arms, with a central pierced splat in the back as in this chair. An example of a chair of this type, purchased in Yorkshire, is shown in Regional Furniture Vol. XVII, 2003, page 50.
