One chair has a brand on the side of the seat showing the name NICHOLSON. (George Nicholson fl 1831 - 1841) This brand is the only identification to this maker so far recorded in this form, since he habitually used a cold metal stamp to strike 'Nicholson Rockley' on his chairs. See Dr. B. Cotton The English Regional Chair, 1991, page 184, fig NE295 for a similar chair bearing the more orthodox Nicholson struck mark.
