Lot Essay

A student of Wilhelm Krause in Berlin, then Eugène Isabey in Paris, Theodore Weber showed at the Salon from the age of 20 until his death. In 1878, he adopted French citizenship and travelled the world, being promoted as an official marine painter and painter of the colonies. Most of his works show the English Channel, the Belgian coast and fishing scenes, many of which focused on the effects of the elements.
