Completed by D.& W.Henderson in 1888, the Marion Lightbody was registered at 2,131 tons gross and measured 28 feet in length, 42½ feet in breadth and 24 feet in depth. Well-appointed, her decks abounded in teak and brass fittings, she was an exceptionally fine looking four-masted barque and was generally regarded as a fast sailer. By the outbreak of War, she was in Russian ownership until, on the 10th July 1915, her career ended whilst en-route from Valparaiso to Queenstown when she was torpedoed by a German submarine.
