Lot Essay

Benjamin Walton was in partnership with William Ryton from circa 1810, Ryton's brother Obadiah having died in that year. William Ryton retired in 1842 leaving Walton as the sole owner of the business. His eldest son Frederick continued after his father's death in 1847 and re-establised the firm to a leading position in the industry. They exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851 at the Crystal Palace in London. The business ended in 1874.
