Lot Essay

The flowered and laurel-festooned mirror has its scalloped and reed-moulded frame clasped by a reed-centred cartouche of Roman acanthus, while flanking reed pilasters issue from rustic brackets to support a pagoda-swept cresting, whose veil-draped urns accompany a love-enflamed and laurelled cassolette on a 'Venus' shell bracket.
A related mirror was sold by the Executors of the late Mrs. H. Pelham-Clinton, Christie's, London, 24 October 1991, lot 191.
