Lot Essay

The table's reed-enriched frame, with its hermed, reeded and palm-wrapped pillars and reeded vase on volute-scrolled stretchers, relates to an Ionic-style cabinet-frame that was supplied to Queen Anne for St. James's Palace in 1702-1703, and has recently been attributed to Thomas and Rene Pelletier (T. Murdoch, 'The Pelletier Family of Carvers and Gilders', Burlington Magazine, June 1998, part II, p. 364-365, fig. 6).
