Lot Essay

The above framed certificate was presented to Benny Lynch by the NBA of America on August 2nd, 1937, in recognition of his becoming undisputed world champion by outpointing Small Montana, of the Philippines, in London on January that year.

Lynch had previously won the title by knocking out Jackie Brown, of Manchester, in September 1935, but the Americans did not recognise him as a real champion until he had beaten their man Montana
