Two okimono [sculptural ornament]
The first signed Gyokure, the second signed Gyokushin, Meiji Period (Late 19th Century)
The first a standing figure of a Chinese archer wearing an elaborately carved coat and carrying a basket full of peonies over his right shoulder, a bow in his left hand and a quiver of arrows on his back, flights and bowstring damaged, the figure of a sennin, a gourd beside him, sits at his feet holding up a branch with a peach and a wasps' nest, signed on a foot of the archer Gyokure; the second a wood and ivory carving of a vegetable vendor, his cart full of vegetables, including pumpkins, courgettes, aubergines and he carries a pipe-case and tobacco pouch, the cart in ivory, the man in ivory and wood and the vegetables in dark and pale wood and stained and unstained ivory, the base is of wood with the signature Gyokushin on rectangular panel on the underside
