Château Pétrus--Vintage 1995
Pomerol, cru exceptionnel
Tasting note: Pétrus 1995: On Bordeaux's Right Bank this vintage is much greater than the 1996 (it had been the driest year since 1945, with the exception of 1961). Tasted in January 2004, this wine had lovely, purple-garnet colour of medium depth, the nose being initially discreet, with fragrant, ripe black fruits. Palate is ample, with intense, rich fruitiness, everything in beautiful equilibrium. Again in June 2005, this time after decanting by Edouard Moueix, and lunch with his grand-mother: superb structure, with Pétrus opulence beginning to show. Tannins are present, but texture is fleshy and ripe, finish is vivacious, long and superb. A.H.
