This still life of circa 1932 fuses Bells' realistic easel painting style with several elements of her decorative design style. A painted decoration stands behind the swagged fabric in the top half of the canvas, while the fan, artificial grapes and white rose belong to her repertory of decorative motifs. The stabilising yellow-green vase appears in several of her still lifes (as well as Duncan Grant's) and is still at Charleston, Bell's Sussex home.
