[and:] two large photographs by Warwick Brookes, Manchester, showing the players and officials in Manchester Tennis and Racquet Club Amateur Tennis Championships, 1922 and May, 1926 respectively, including P. The Manchester Racquet Club opened in May 1876, with two rackets courts. The following year, the club moved to Blackfriars Road, Salford, where a tennis court, a rackets court and bowling alley were built. When the club changed its name to the Manchester Tennis and Racquet Club, it opened in December 1880 with a tennis match between Julian Marshall and R.O. Milne. The Amateur Rackets championship was held at the club from 1878 to 1882, and the Amateur Tennis championship from 1883 to 1887. In 1922 The Queen's Club ceded its right to organize the Amateur Tennis championship to the Tennis and Rackets Association. The Amateur championship was subsequently played at Manchester in 1922, 1926, 1931, 1947, 1951 and 1964. (3)
