The wooden carcase with applied panels, foliate cast silk-backed side frets, sliding handle to the top, the circular dial with Roman chapter ring and centre densely engraved with foliage and an exotic bird, signed on a reserve JOHN CARTER/CORNHILL, LONDON, blued steel heart-shaped hands, the eight day single chain fusee movement with four pillars joining plates with canted upper angles, anchor escapement, punch- numbered 1841 on the front plate and with engraved repeat signature to the back plate with pendulum holdfast -- 11½ in.
