The brown painted two-tier three tier box with bone roundel to the front inscribed DENT/2632./TWO DAYS with the government mark, brass bowl and gimbal, bowl also stamped DENT/2632, hinged cover to winding hole, silvered 95 mm. diameter Roman dial with 56 hour up/down ring, signed DENT, LONDON./Chronometer Maker, to the/QUEEN. NO.2632., blued steel hands, the seconds ring centred by a government mark, chain fusee with Earnshaw type escapement, cut bimetallic balance with helical spring, the spotted plates with government mark -- 6¾ in. Lot Essay

No.2632 was purchased by the Admiralty in June 1857 and was used consistently until sold in 1933. It is recorded in use on a number of ships. A copy of the relevant pages from the national archives is available.
