AN ATTIC BLACK-FIGURED SKYPHOS
ATTRIBUTED TO THE PAINTER OF THE NICOSIA OLPE, CIRCA 530 B.C.
One side with an arming scene, a bearded warrior standing at the center, wearing a short chiton and one greave, his right knee raised to don the other, a high-crested Corinthian helmet on the ground below, flanked by four attendants including two bearded draped male figures to the left, one standing and one seated, each holding a staff, a standing female figure and a seated youth to the right, the female clad in a peplos and holding a shield and a spear, the draped youth seated on a stool and holding a spear, two inward-facing sphinxes with sickle-shaped wings flanking the scene; the other side with a bearded figure in the center seated on a stool, wearing a long chiton and holding a staff, flanked by two standing draped female attendants, two nude youths holding spears, and two inward-facing sphinxes; with tongues above the foot, a double row of ivy below the rim, details in added red and white
