A GREEK BLACK-PAINTED CALYX-KRATER
CIRCA 400-350 B.C.
Possibly Boeotian, both sides with two confronting water birds flanking a large palmette, each bird with a long neck and open bill, three with their wings upraised, one with its wings closed, one side with leafy sprigs framing the palmette; a band of interlocking S's below framed by dots, tongues above, ivy leaves below the handle roots
