Lot Essay

Born in Tambov, Vladimir Shchuko was an architect who built many public buildings including the Lenin Library in Moscow. Along with the painter Martiros Sar'an, the graphic artist Lev Bruni and the sculptor Aleksandr Matveyev, Shchuko was a member of 4 Iskusstvo or Four Arts Society of Artists active between 1925-1929. This soviet exhibiting society featured work from all four 'arts'; painting, sculpture, graphics and architecture.
