A large silver-gilt and enamel presentation dish
Cyrillic mark of the Grachev brothers with the Imperial warrant, St. Petersburg, 1894
Shaped circular, the centre applied with the Imperial eagle centred by the arms of Moscow and with further cities on the wings, the raised border with a narrow, inner band applied with a blue enamelled inscription, the outer border of cloisonné enamelled blue strapwork and red and green floral scrolls on stippled ground with strapwork reserves, enclosing four similarly decorated roundels on a deep pink ground and four shaped roundels applied with the crowned arms of St. Petersburg, crossed French and Russian flags, and the date in Russian '12 August', '1897.', marked on rim of base
20 5/8 in. (52.4 cm. ) diam.

Lot Essay

The Russian inscription reads: 'To the President of the French Republic Felix Faure . From the St. Petersburg Merchants' Guild.'

Following the visit of Tsar Nicholas II in Paris in October 1896 the French President Felix Faure plays the continuity and visits St.Petersburg the year after in August.
