The sitter was the second daughter of Sir James Langham, 7th Bt., of Cottesbrook, Northamptonshire, and Juliana, sister and sole heiress of Thomas Musgrave, of Old Cleeve, Somerset. Masquerier painted the sitter's mother in the same year, 1805, as well as other family members between 1805 and 1845.
