These splendid fauteuils are virtually identical to those from the collection of Sir Philip Sassoon, Bt., 25 Park Lane, W.1. They are recorded in the Large Drawing Room in the pre-1927 inventory and in 1939 and were sold by the Marquess of Cholmondeley, 'Works of Art from Houghton', Christie's, London, 8 December 1994, lot 27. Interestingly, these were possibly the Louis XIV chairs lent by Sir Philip from Park Lane for the use of the President of France and Madame Lebrun during a ceremony in Westminster Hall on their state visit on 23 March 1939.
