Lot Essay

This ormolu and brass-enriched bureau is designed in the elegant French 'antique' style adopted and promoted in the late 18th century by the celebrated cabinetmaker David Roentgen (d. 1807). Following classical architectural examples, the Corinthian-pilastered and triumphal-arched facade of this elegant bureau is beautifully echoed in its cylinder-enclosed interior.
