The rectangular rounded top with an elaborate scrolling foliate and strapwork field decorated with costumed figures and exotic birds and centred by the depiction of Venus and Cupid, above three short and three long shaped and panelled drawers and similarly decorated panelled sides, the canted angles terminating in hoof-cast feet, losses to the boulle marquetry, lacking one drop handle, partially remounted

The marquetry of the top most probably derives from an engraving in the Louis XIV 'Roman' fashion issued in the Oeuvre of Jean Berain (d. 1711) The specialist inlayer Toussainte Devoye has been proposed as a possible marqueteur for this group of commodes, some of which bear the stamp adopted by Nicolas Sageot (d. 1731) of the fabourg Saint-Antoine following his election as maître in 1706. (see P. Grand, 'Le Mobilier Boulle et les ateliers de l'époque', in Estampille Objet d'Art, 1993, pp. 48-70, fig. 16-19).
