With their refined neo-classical shape and delicate carving, these fauteuils are a prime example of the oeuvre of Georges Jacob (1739-1814), one of the foremost menuisiers of the Louis XVI period. After his training in the workshop of Louis Delanois, he started on his own and already worked for the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne in 1773. His prestigious clientèle included most of the patrons of his time, including the Comte d'Artois, the Prince de Condé and the painter Louis David.
