Rehearsals for the revised Don Carlos. 'I do not have orders to give ... at all at all'; he will attend a few rehearsals to explain about the sections of Don Carlos which have been recomposed, but nothing more; 'I cannot burden myself with the complexity of the musical and scenic execution'; he hopes for news of Ricordi's full recovery.
The premiere of the Italian version of Don Carlos took place only a month after this letter, on 10 January 1884.
